MuTeens Behind the Scenes info:

 Ok, so I'm slowing down on MuTeens since December is almost over and I need to tend The House of Rants, which is my main blog. This is just an outlet to test out my uncreative writing juices, for I am not a Professional writer... and as an unprofessional writer, I've to admit that I've lost control of the story and every time I try to course correct, the story pushes me to a different direction. 

The Original Original story (before the Alice it came from the Toy Chest) was a lot more simpler: 3 teens at an arcade, Mutagen bomb explodes. Everyone died except the 3 MuTeens... it wasn't a Team Name, just describing the "New Mutants" who were teenagers.

-Nick, who was an amalgamation if the create a character idea GameDude and the custom Nefty-kun. Originally he was a blank slate... Now he's not a self-insert... he's personality wise, 85% My Cat from High School era and 15% me:

• Always horny = cat
• Fucks everything of the opposite sex = cat
• Is into incest = cat. Seriously that fucker impregnated his sisters and ate the male babies.
• Girls find him Extremely cute = cat.
• Turns into a demon all of a sudden = cat.
• Penchant for napping and snacking = cat.
• Over reliance of "detective mode" = cat. They're supposed to have more enhanced senses than humans and DM was the closest thing to a "cat mode" without making Nick into a Furry.
• Overprotective of family = both
• Dorky gamer=me
• Slacker =both

How Nick became so convolutedly convoluted? Zack Snyder effect. The inability to contain a single story without adding more crap upon crap. That's why Nick is now a Space Prince/demon/secret agent/superhero with a magic dick. 

Also, Nick's anger towards the world due to the death of his Mom is a warped reflection of my own anger towards the world due to the death of my Mom.

-Ashley:

She went through a couple of iterations until she became Nick's lesbian best friend. 

Originally Ashley played the role of bith Barbara and Ashley. She was Nick's childhood friend after he moved with his dad. There was no Licia, or Aurora. Nick Sr. was an EPF agent. Nick had to move out after Nick Sr. had to move overseas for an EPF situation. Classic army brat scenario. He returns home on his teens, Ashley had become a bit less tomboyish but this asshat, Bertram Cyrus kept hounding her trying to make her his girlfriend. Personality wise, she was meant to be a Childhood best friend turned into Manic Pixie Dream girl... now she's girl Nick who has to harp on on how she's a lesbian but is never with a girl. There was a somewhat shy iteration that eventually became Natsumi.

-Bertram:

He had less changes, but had the most changes. Originally Bertram was a Bully who disliked Nick because of his relationship with Ashley. Something akin to Gaston. This version got scrapped. Originally, Bertram was more like current Syrus but with Bertram's jock status.

Also, Bertram was white and not related to Baxter. Eventually Bertram became a friendly rival to Nick but Ashley was a sour spot for Bertram as he jad a crush  her but she had a crush on Nick and Nick was more oblivious than Ryo Hazuki. When they were mutated Bertram absorbed the bodies of all the people at the arcade except Nick. This included Ashley's body. Her soul was absorbed by Nick and Ashley's love was meant to be the source of Nick's VG Logic powers. This changed dramatically. Bertram would still take the name SyBertError but it would be spelled as CyBerTerror, since he was "the bad guy".

Missing an ebay auction on a Masterverse Two-Bad was what made me change SyBertError into the fusion of two brothers. Making them Black Baxter clones instead of fly Baxter clones helped cement them in TMNT-inspired lore...

Syrus is basically Urkel meets Sheldon Cooper with a bit of Doctor Doom... but not evil like Baxter.

Bertram is more laid back, plays down his intelligence in order to coast by like Nick. Hos personality is similar to TTG Beast Boy and Cyborg combined.

Nick Cade Sr.:

Mr. Cade is the typical Military Dad, who cates deeply about his son but is unable to demonstrate his affection. He's strict but fair, but as a spy, he's got layers and lies like an onion. He's loosely based on my perception of my Dad as a kid after the divorce. My Mom never spoke ill of my Dad but I did harbor a huge grudge towards him for years.

Alicia:

She originally started as a joke and a subtle nod to Shauna Rae... and Jessie Spano. The only thing that she mirrors my relationship with my stepsister is that like kid Nick I used to be am asshole to my stepsister. I apologized at her wedding. I think she wanted me to be her big brother, but I spent a lot of time putting walls between us.

Barbara:

Her name comes from my first unrequited love. Her personality is mostly Manic Pixie Dream Girl with hints of Mary Sue... Since Like Nick, she got Snyder Complicated. The psychic power are loosely based on how her namesake could read my mind. She was born after a throwaway line in the Alice review. Ansorbong Ashley's role and becoming the Kelly Kapowski to Nick's Zack Morris. The Becky Lynch figure I used as a stand-in for Barbara helped define the character a bit more. Being redhaired pushed the Xenogears references forward. 

Natsumi:

She started as an Ashley concept. The "fluttershy" iteration, as I called her. Then the idea of making her an even bigger fish out of water by being the homeschooled daughter of Japanese immigrants and also a ninja... and other complications. 

Chloe:

Originally, Chole was meant to be a one-off antagonist to Alicia. Nick would go in his over the top ways to teach Chloe a lesson about bullying/harassment. Then no more Chloe. It was my brother who suggested Chloe to be a nun... something something Catholic guilt something. 

 Barbara and Nick's alien BTS origins explained:

While I haven't officially explained the entirety of the rules of the TMNT world of the Neftyverse, the rules are similar to various continuities of TMNT. Mainly toylines. The biggest change is that the Retromutagen Ooze reacts slightly different when combined with explosives. Most people DIE from the explosion. Those who survive are those who have an "x factor" (Marvel reference not intended). For example, Syrus and Bertram are clones of a man fro. A parallel universe. This makes them "off-synch" from thr Neftyverse and makes them "metahuman". Mr. Cade's Superhuman Serum transformed his DNA, which allowed his offspring to have any further mutations be enhanced by their will/personality.

 Nick's Hero complex/avenger tendencies allowed him to tap into the same power from his heroes. With Nick being mainly a gamer, he can tap into the power of videogames. But in order to have Nick and Barbara stand out more than Ashley, Natsumi, or SyBert, both got alien origins. Nick's grandfather being an alien, allowed to justify PART of Nick's powers, mainly the weapon constructs. His Alien powers would have been to create illusions, but due to his enhancements and some of Barbara's genetic material, his illusions can be made "real enough". 

In Ashley's case her personality being similar to Nick's but without the tragic traumas, allowed her to be more carefree. This translated into becoming a sort of reverse Freakazoid! She still hasn't tapped to the full extent of her power IN THE REAL WORLD. Digitally, she's the equivalent of a goddess. Thanks to her father's DNA she has above normal strength, agility, endurance, and intelligence.

Natsumi's shyness is one of the main reasons to her shadow powers. The other, which to the moment of writing this, I haven't revealed in the main story. Is that Aki, Natsumi's Mom is the descendant of a yokai who raped her grandmother when she was a schoolgirl. Now you understand why it's been a bit too hard to explain it. (Japanese schoolgirl raped by a monster... tentacles were involved, as I am a man of culture after all). The arranged marriage to Mitsurugi Tetsuo was also a huge shadow over her. 

So, Barbara was made an alien Hybrid as well. Originally Verdosians were meant to be plant-like beings, but Redheaded plant based geomancer was too much of a Poison Ivy reference, so I Jean Greyed the shit out of Barbara... by accident. Then I made the Verdosians nasty conquerors who assimilate planets and raze opposition. Earth has been under Verdosian rule after the end of the Saurian Age.The Rise of Man is technically a Verdosian Achievement. Since our earliest ancestors were genetically manipulated by Verdosians.

 

The experiment wasn't as successful, but the potential for hybridization of the homo genus had to be limited and seemingly culled. The myths of creatures like centaurs and mermaids were real. Earth became a sanctuary to a Verdosian noble family. Neronica is currently Earth's "owner". Unlike most Verdosians who own planets and become their "gods" or "emperors", Neronica chose to live amongst humans and leaves them to their own devices. But now with increased Alien and Interdimensional activity on Earth, she's had to get her hands dirty. This will be further explained in the future. I dropped a few hints in one or two of the chapters about Earth's status.

Then there's Redd's side of the family. There's a reason why Barbara is refered to as a Nephilim. Redd is not entirely human. His metahuman attributes were activated by Bishop unbeknownst to Redd. More on him later as he's currently on a difficult situation. But these attributes in combination with Barbara's Verdosian DNA and Having some of Nick's genetic material in her mouth at the time of the explosion, enhanced Barbara to "supermutant" levels... unlike fellow MuTeens.

Nick is OP, but Barbara is far more OP.

Other characters:

Neutrinos:

While the Toyline is based on the vintage line, i brought a bastardization of the IDW Tribble to the Neftyverse in order to have an "Emma Frost" to Barbara's "Jean Grey". It wasn't part of the OG plan, but I wanted to "evolve" SyBert into a more "Heroic version" and I remembered the OVA and the Mutastone lore. That also gave me a way to "Evolve" Ashley and have her become more than "a Real life VTuber". The issue I had was that OG continuity Tribble was a toddler while IDW was a teen. So, I aged her using the excuse that her "unnatural" aging would keep her psychic abilities while making her "an adult".  I didn't want to create a new squad of Hot Rodding Teens from Dimension X, when all I needed was 1.

KrysTa was created because KrisMu's death didn't allow me to have a fairy. She will return and play a Tinkerbell-like role.

The Nuns:

Mother Maria Ximena Gutierrez has a connection to EPF and might be reusable. The rest of the sisters were extras. Maybe Sister Paola, who had a speaking role and was already attracted to Nick's Devil Dick COULD return, but still there's no organic reason for her to return so far.

Celeste:

Like already stated, Obed, Nick's grandpa, was hiding in the town of San Sebastián de las Vegas del Pepino (that's the town's full name... and one of the most important places of MY life.) So, in order to have Nick's Grandfather's house, which is most likely going to be PART of the MuTeens HQ. The true HQ will be spread throughout the New World and linked via transmat... But am abandoned house would've been a crappy move, so Obed needed others who knew his secret. That's where Celeste's family comes in. Originally Celeste wasn't the caretaker. It was going to be Johnny, but Nick broke the 4th wall and said to me that he wanted a female character, so, I made Celeste. The original plan was for Johnny, would become the pilot for the MuTeens after returning from the Middle East, whole Johnny's parents would've been the caretakers until Johnny's return.

Doctor Joaquina:

She has remained mostly in the background, a medical doctor specialized in Mutants. There are things brewing with her, but they haven't been made more concrete.

Birthdays:

Ashley: April 29th

Nick: April 30th

Barbara: May 3rd

Alicia: March 29th (she's a year older than Nick)

Stockman Twins October 12th (Technically the oldest members of the team)

Natsumi: July 15th (she's one year younger than Nick)

These birthdates have some significance... also, it was important to have Nick's birthday to be shortly before graduation as that was a key plot point. Having the accident be close to graduation. Dreams dashed and remedial classes after awakening in order to have actual diplomas. The twins have an October birthday,  since Stockman first appeared in October 1984.

Nick and Ashley's birthday are a reference... 

Barbara's is in May, which still fits the "next month" explanation... even if it's the 3rd. Yes, her birthday is also another reference.

Fun fact: Originally, Nick and Barbara were conceived at a an orgy between Neronica, Carmen, Redd, the Irwins and Nick Sr. Dr. Irwin had used Nick Sr's DNA to impregnate herself in vitro as her husband was sterile. The idea was to cover up her tracks with this small orgy. Also, Carmen's succubus abilities would've led into it. This was scrapped, because it would clash with Nick's resentment towards his father's perceived philandering.
